Delhi Metro to be aired on Discovery channel

The story of the conceptualization and execution of the Delhi Metro project is now set to unravel before a global audience.

Discovery channel will be airing an hour-long documentary on the mass rapid transit system on August 25, titled — ‘24 hours with the Delhi Metro’ — that will showcase the various features of the Metro, the benefits it has offered to the capital’s citizens and the technology that has gone into its conception.

It would be for the first time that the channel will be airing an hour-long documentary dedicated to a single infrastructure project in India. Apparently, the channel’s networks across the globe have shown interest in broadcasting the documentary.

So what is it about the Delhi Metro that makes it such a special subject of interest for a channel like Discovery that attracts a viewership of 33 million people in India alone?

“The Delhi Metro isn’t just another public infrastructure project. More importantly, it’s the present and the future of not just Delhi but India too that makes it so special,” said Deepak Shourie, managing director, Discovery Networks India.

Shourie could not be more correct said Anuj Dayal, spokesperson, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). “The techniques that have been adopted in the construction of the Delhi Metro have created demands for a similar mass rapid transit system across various cities in the country, including Mumbai,” he said.

The Metro has inarguably emerged the pride of the city and the documentary’s creators are making sure that the Chawri Bazaar Metro station, one of the deepest stations in the world, situated at a depth of 30 meters is not overlooked. Incidentally, the station was built despite several difficulties, well under the stipulated time period.

The documentary includes interviews with project officials.
