Goa: After all the eating and
drinking and the yearly salutation to King Momos (considered the King
of Carnivals in numerous Latin American festivities) some of you may
want to head to a chapel when in Goa. It’s called the ‘Reconciliation
Chapel’ and is the first of its kind in Asia.
You don’t have to stand in a queue to
confess your sins at the Chapel, situated 10 kilometres from Panaji. A
priest is at hand from 0600 hrs (IST) in the morning till 1800 hrs
(IST) in the evening.
“The number of people coming for
confessions increases year by year. Ten priests used to sit from
morning till evening to listen to the confessions. Then we thought of
another place suitable for confessions where we can prepare people for
confessions. We had to renovate the new place we chose,” says
Vice-Postulator, Pillar complex, Fr Tony Fernandes.
The Chapel is conceptualised on the theme
of 'reconciliation' which is an integral part of Christian living.
Paintings narrating scenes from the Bible and the relationship between Jesus and the sinner are embedded on the Chapel's walls.
“The concept of reconciliation Chapel is
very good. It’s a perfect place for reconciliation. There is perfect
music playing in the background. The inscriptions written on the walls
really give you a chance to speak out the sins that you have
committed,” says a resident of Panaji, Remy Rebello.
